Emotional tension is captured between joy and sorrow as the Virgin Mary holds her son, Jesus as both a child and man. Bright angels surround the child, symbolizing divine celebration, while darker tones envelop Mary at the death of Jesus, reflecting their suffering. Her split expression-half in light, half in shadow-reflects the complex emotions of maternal love and looming sacrifice. The contrast between light and dark evokes a powerful sense of divine presence and human grief.
